The full process of working through the Music Marketing project was easy and smooth, like I mentioned on my first post about the project, although we were introduced to a new genre of music none of us had experience working with we still coasted through the project learning more and more as we brainstormed and discussed specific topics. Some of those topic being the distribution, production, and marketing for the vast majority of heavy metal groups.
We began with some extensive research on the genre, making a chart with two different production companies and two case studies for each of these two companies. This gave us an amazing initiative on the project due to the information we all gathered together for our different case studies. We found different media convergence methods constantly used throughout many bands, what the fan base was like for the genre, and a vast majority of those specific marketing techniques used by distribution companies for heavy metal. After this step we felt more comfortable in the genre and the project in general
To plan our music video we had one of our members make a simple story board describing the basics of how our music video would be. We later expanded on the story board and made the music video. The music video took a more direct path at the rather meaningful lyrics, showing off what the lyrics described on each scene. This helps the audience convey the message and lyricism of the song.
Lastly we had to formulate our presentation, we compiled all of the important information we learnt throughout the project about our genre and band to promote our band, Gidimake. The presentation was simple and straight to the point, including, the campaign, our music video, and the website, amongst other subjects. One of our members made an amazing website including a logo and merch for Gidimake, this added a serious feeling to what we presented to our "audience".
Throughout this project I learnt a large amount of topics related to marketing music and its specific genres. I'm happy I had a very different genre of music to those I'm rather knowledgeable and comfortable with. This project not only expanded my knowledge on marketing but also on the general view of the heavy metal genre of music. This will be helpful to develop my Cambridge portfolio due to the fact I learnt an extensive amount of information which I would furthermore expand on when planning on developing my portfolio.
